Description

Each set includes a selection of 6 different images from our Indochine B&W postcard range: smiling women from Tonkin*, a wealthy woman from Cochinchine*, our poster boy, Duy Tan, the Emperor of Annam*, a Tonkinese Mandarin and a young musician with a cheeky smile.

Printed with black ink onto medium weight, off-white, cotton canvas fabric.

These coasters will hold up to daily use and are easy to wash: just throw them into the washing machine.

Each image is from an old French postcard from the Indochine B&W Collection.

Designed, printed and sewn in our Very Ngon Homewares workshop.

* From the mid-1800s to mid-1900s, Vietnam was divided by the French into 3 administrative regions: Tonkin in the north (including Ha Noi); centrally-located Annam (including Hue and Hoi An, formerly known as Faifoo); and Cochinchine to the south (including Saigon).

Please note that while we print 8 different images, each set consists of only 6 images. We mix and match the most suitable images for each set which results in a different mix of images from one set to the next. Unfortunately we cannot accept requests for specific images per set.

Before being given these coasters as a gift I had always struggled to keep my wooden furniture free of water marks from cold drink condensation running down the side of the glass onto standard hard coasters and finally pooling on the table. I even resorted to using kitchen paper, albeit not attractive in company. I found these attractive coasters so useful in subtropical Australia that I have bought more and have given them away as gifts.

Even after having these coasters for more than 6 years I have found them hard wearing even with regular washing.

These coasters live on our dining table so are used at LEAST once a day if not more for over 7 years… they have endured spills (I have 3 kids), washing, being played with, castle building, and saving our table from water marks… highly recommended if you are looking for an easily washable, good looking coaster.
